vertieft.
Abstract
Multiple sclerosis is the most common cause of non-traumatic disability in young adults.
The following article addresses special features of multiple sclerosis in the context
of neurological rehabilitation. The rehabilitative and symptomatic therapy of frequent
symptoms and functional deficits are presented independently of the course of the
disease. Rehabilitation in MS focuses on functional deficits in mobility, paresis,
spasticity, ataxia, bladder dysfunction, fatigue, cognitive symptoms, depression and
pain. The multimodal inpatient rehabilitation comprises aerobic training in MS-specific
groups and interventions targeting individual deficits. Neuropsychological training,
individual and group session on coping and adherence to therapy as well as advice
on social issues and the evaluation of the work place situation complement the therapy
options. The early age of onset of the disease often causes an early restriction of
participation in working life. The restoration and maintenance of work ability is
therefore an essential goal of neurological rehabilitation, as well as the organization
of aftercare and the introduction of vocational rehabilitation services.
